Problems installing Auction program

A place to discuss and receive support for the Web Auction application.

Postby TonyB » Sun Oct 14, 2007 11:41 am

I am not making progress with the installation of the auction program.
The main reason is that I am new to all of this.

I have installed Dataface. I have called it up with dataface_info.php.
It says installed. But in the Installation status box it says :Please make the Dataface/templates_c directory writable by the web browser.

Does this mean that templates_c is not yet writable by the web browser?
How do I make it writable?

I have done this and get an error : No such file or directory

I agree with the error, I was unable to find it either.

Could you also tell me what I have to enter into the Install.php
Database root account:
Username
Password
Database Information:
Host: localhost (is default)
Database Name
Username
Password
Create user: check or not
FTP Connection Information
Host name: localhost (is default)
Use secure FTP:check or not

Password

I thank you in anticipation of your help. I know I often miss the obvious, have I done so here?

The templates_c directory is located in the Dataface directory (which is within the dataface install dir). There should also be a directory there named templates .

As for the install form:

Could you clarify which parts you don't understand so I can avoid repeating instructions that may already by in the readme or on the install form itself?

I wouldn't spend too much time getting hung up on the installer. It is a convenient tool that works on probably 95% of web servers, but it is very difficult to try every configuration, so if it isn't working for you please move onto the manual install instructions.

Thanks for trying the app.

Best regards

Hi Steve,
I did not have a templates_c directory. I created one.
I then went to the command prompt at \dataface-0.7.1\Dataface> and typed in chmod 777 templates_c
and the command is not recognized.
For the command to work I would have expected a chmod.exe or something like that somewhere and I don't have anything like that.
What am I doing wrong?
Best regards,
Tony

Hi Steve,
You can forget my last post.
I looked at Wikipedia and it said chmod was a unix based command so I went back to php.
Here I had chmod(C:\xampp\htdocs\Dataface-0.7.1/dataface/templates_c, 0777);
This gave a screen output :- Warning chmod() Function Chmod: No error in xxxxxxxxx.php on line 7.
I liked that message.
I changed the line to chmod(..\Dataface-0.7.1/dataface/templates_c, 0777); and the output screen stayed blank. So I then went back to dataface_info.php and now it does not tell me to make templates_c writable anymore.
Is shall have to see if there is a rule when giving the directory path in php.
I have written this as it might help somebody else - if it does they are keeping quiet.
Best regards,
Tony
